School Field Trips
Bring your classes!
A variety of options are available for your field trip to Flandrau. A standard field trip includes an age-appropriate, interactive planetarium show for your pre-kindergarten through high school group, presented by a knowledgeable astronomer. Shows are aligned with state standards. Your class will also explore hands-on exhibits representing various sciences. Currently, students can learn about the history of Afghanistan and Pakistan and see its most amazing minerals in our special exhibit, “Dangerous Beauty: Minerals of the Hindu Kush” (through December 2011). Additional permanant exhibits include the largest scale replica of the Martian surface and a self-guided tour of one of the largest mineral collections in the country. A new traveling exhibit, 'It's a Gas: The Bright Side of Science' will run through January 1, 2012. This exhibit explores the noble gases and the role they play in the Earth's atmosphere and our day to day lives.
The price for a standard field trip is $5.00 per student, with a minimum of 20 students required. One chaperone per 10 students is required, free of charge. Title 1 discounts are available, ask for details when you book your trip.
If you are looking for more in-depth explorations of specific content areas, please check our 'Discovery Programs', which can be booked separately or added to a standard field trip.
